Students hold special worship and prayer convocation

As the last full week of classes began at Liberty University Monday, students prepared their hearts and minds at a special worship and prayer convocation.

Liberty’s Campus Praise Band set the mood for the service as they performed with a combined choir that included choral groups from LU’s Center for Worship, the Department of Ministry Teams, LU Praise members, student members of the Thomas Road Baptist Choir, and the University Chorale, Concert Choir and Chamber Singers. Students joined in the worship, singing “Makes Us One” and “In Christ Alone.”

"It was a joint effort of hundreds of the musicians on campus this morning. Praise the Lord!" said David McKinney, campus worship pastor.

Sounds of Liberty, one of Liberty’s traveling ministry teams, performed “Lord, You’re Holy.” Sounds of Liberty is made up of six vocalists, a five-piece band and an audio technician. The team performs nearly 100 concerts year and has ministered in some of the largest churches and organizational events in the country.

Dr. Joe Crider, professor of worship and music at the Center for Worship and Liberty Baptist Theological Seminary, spoke to students about what it means to engage in true worship.

“Worshiping [Christ] is an intentional decision — a choice every single one of us face every single moment of every day,” he said. “Worship is a response to a relationship that we don’t deserve.”

Crider joined the Liberty faculty in fall 2007 after spending nearly 14 years as the worship pastor of Second Baptist Church in Springfield, Missouri.

High in the bleachers behind the main stage, Liberty’s Worship Orchestra then performed “Make Me Glad,” “Sweeter” and “All Hail the Power,” along with the Center for Worship House Band.

The Campus Praise Band closed the convocation with “When I Speak Your Name,” “Revelation Song” and “You Saved Me.”

Fighting the Fight of Sleepiness

Hi,

Monday, every one most sleepy and blues day. Well my day was mostly alright. Pretty much enjoy it. Classes went smoothly. Just 4 more exams to go till school is over. i got Bible, Math, English and Kine exam. Math and Kine is easy. Bible and English is medium easy. It is intense thinking about these exams and studying hard for them. Doing homework after more homework. Making sure every homework is well done and excellence, so i can prove that is not me that i do but is God working in me that do these great work.

After classes went to workout. Good workout to release the tension and maybe stress in me. Looking at myself at the mirror, i think i have gain pounds and muscle but still look the same size. Maybe taller. Have to measure. hehe. Is really amazing that i see the changes of my lifestyle. I guess i'll be a whole different person went i get back. For sure I'm still crazy for coke, McD, Nike, and God. I think my character has been molded a lot, i tend to think more, take action more, and somethings has grown in is listening. Taking God more seriously, has taking me new levels that i can't imagine and is still guiding me through the process of my life.

i have been thinking a lot and asking a lot too, whether should i do another major in ministry? But what ministry, pastor? youth? worship? mission? the lists goes on. Also, have minor in sound(PA). i need prayer on this, would you guys pray for me on this. I will of course finish up my kines major but my consciences tell me to study more. you guys can comment or email on this.

Besides all that, today at convocation, is good of course but it was heart heating up. The theme for today was worship and it was good. It speaks so much. Will post later.

Anyway, i got to sleep now. Got to wake up early tomorrow to study and study and work hard. Till then nighty night.

Rain In Bedtime Nights

Hi,

Sunday great day. Didn't do much but did some studying and went to church. Church today was great. Today's preach was funny all the way. His main message was focus on Jesus and be joyful in life.

Watch the NBA playoff. Now the main game here now is baseball and went summer starts the American Football starts.

Anyway, going to sleep and sleep in Jesus Christ. So till then nighty night.

Feet to Travel

Hi,

Today is was great. Today i went to a special dinner for MKs. I know but I'm somewhat a MK cause my dad goes for missions to many places. So i actually should be called SPMK. hehe

So we all went for dinner at a farm. It was quite far like a 20 minute drive. The place is huge and full of green. Man, i get to see sheep and horses. WOW!! well i didn't see this animals before. Also these animals are big. They are quite overwhelming.

So we had barbecue. It was delicious. After that we sit around the camp fire and cook some marshmallows. Is was amazing, cook it and then put it on a biscuit or a chocolate bar. Lovely. Then we watch Bedtime stories.

Then we came home. It was fun, got to see many MKs and had lot's of fun. Now I'm going to sleep. Till then nighty night.

Bernice King, daughter of Martin Luther King, Jr., speaks out

Liberty University had the privilege on Friday of hosting a dynamic woman who represents two Kings.

Bernice Albertine King, the youngest daughter of renowned preacher and civil rights leader Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., spoke at convocation about her dual role as a representative of her father’s “King” legacy and also as a servant of the Lord — the ultimate King of Kings.

“Today is a special day that we’ve waited for all year. We’ve looked forward to this,” LU Chancellor Jerry Falwell, Jr., said in his introduction.

Later, Falwell said that he believed Bernice King helped "to bridge the divide that was created between different groups of students during the 2008 election season. For example, she gave a strong Gospel message today. African American Christians and white Christians have been separated into different political camps in the last generation or so but they share many of the same core values, especially when it comes to social issues like abortion, marriage and school vouchers."

Like her father, King is a servant of Christ and highly-educated, holding a master's degree in divinity from the Candler School of Theology and a juris doctorate from Emory University School of Law. She is also an eloquent orator who spoke before the United Nations when she was only 17.

Since that time, King has spoken everywhere from The White House and the Department of Defense to the headquarters of DuPont, AT&T, NIKE and The Salvation Army. She has appeared on the Oprah Show, CNN and BET, and she has been featured in magazines such as “People,” the “Ladies Home Journal” and “Charisma.”

She said the Holy Spirit has revealed to her the unique meaning of her initials, B.A. King. For her, “Be A King” means that she — and all believers around her — should not shy away from their rightful place as a representative of Christ. God made His people to be kings and priests on the earth, she explained in her convocation message. As believers, she said, people can act from a place of authority if they’re living in God’s will and motivated by him.

“There has to be a consciousness of the fact of who they really are,” she said of believers.

Her father, following Christ above all, was a king on earth, she said. When he spoke, people took action, and attitudes began to change. She even went a step further and called her father a prophet.

“I believe that my father was perhaps the only national prophet sent to America,” she said, recalling how he challenged America to live up to its Judeo-Christian roots both through his words and actions.

The legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., is much broader than his “I Have a Dream” speech, she said. He understood that he was acting under the authority of Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit.

Everyone has a duty to understand that God is calling for kings in the earth, she said, referencing Jesus as the “King of kings and Lord of lords.”

She called Liberty University a place for “kings-in-training.”

“You are very blessed and highly favored to be at an institution such as this. … Bloodlines have been blessed through this institution,” she told the students.

Kings have great authority, she said, adding that one of the most potent weapons God has given them is their mouths — to speak up. Speaking can make things happen, and she said it can also inspire creativity, just as God’s act of speaking brought the earth into existence.

God’s people need to find their territory of action and begin operating toward their divine assignment, she said. For someone who doesn’t know what it is, she said it helps to take an inventory of the events in your life and figure out the direction that the hand of God has been guiding your path.

The time is coming in America when Christians will be persecuted, she said. People have spent too much time caught up in denominationalism, King declared, saying that God is looking for his people to have one voice united for him. Right now, she said, Christians aren’t exercising a strong influence in the entertainment industry, education, politics or even family values.

Believers must accept their identities as kings of the earth and future residents of God’s kingdom, she said, and they must take a stand for what they know is right.

“Accept your identity. You’re a king. Don’t ever see yourself as a subject. You’re not subject to anything but Jesus Christ and his Holy Spirit,” she said. “… All you have to do is know who you are [in Christ].”

In addition to her busy schedule as a popular speaker, Bernice King now serves full time at the New Birth Missionary Baptist Church in a suburb of Atlanta. She is also a member of the State Bar of Georgia.
